A Green Haven for Art and Performance in Gowanus

Nestled in Gowanus, Littlefield is known as the eco-friendly hub for art and performance. Renowned for its vibrant array of culturally diverse and experimental comedy shows, dance parties, and live music events, it is a cornerstone of the community's creative expression. As they approached their decade milestone in the summer of 2017, Littlefield made a significant move from their iconic Degraw Street location to a new abode at 635 Sackett Street. This transition provided the perfect opportunity for a comprehensive venue overhaul, carefully curated by the owners themselves.

As part of their ambitious redesign, the owners conceived a plan to incorporate a mural on sliding wooden panels, which would serve a dual purpose as a coat check during the winter months. To bring this artistic vision to life, they enlisted the expertise of ALBOE, aiming for a mural that would encapsulate the venue's culturally rich roots.

The resulting mural, measuring 10’ x 14’, was meticulously crafted using a blend of hand and spray paint techniques. Its composition drew inspiration from a diverse range of influences, including Aztec patterns, African folklore, and Japanese anime. This amalgamation of artistic elements was captured through a stop-motion time-lapse recording, meticulously chronicling the creation process from inception to completion. The final product was thoughtfully packaged for dissemination across social media platforms.
